A Vintage Movie Show " Yesterdays Milborne Port"

Tickets will cost £5 and can be bought from Wayne Butchers Shop, PTFA or from Richard Duckworth 01963 250036 from the 2nd May 2013.  

The money raised from this event will go to help kit out the new School Library.

The films are now on Digital Form and show the village from 1937 from mostly good quality 16mm film.  Showing the two glove factories from working right through to demolition and finally into new Housing Estates.  Unique footage of Milborne Port's own Home Guard, On Parade, training through to the stand down parade of Dec 1944, true Dads Army!  The after War Parade around the village in 1946 and the After War Dance of 1946 in the Victoria Hall.  Old Fetes are shown from 1948 through to the mid 1950's.  The Youth Organisations are also shown, on parade to the Methodist and Parish Church, plus the Methodist Sunday School outings of the late 1940's and early 1950s.  Old peoples outings are also featured, plus more!  Bonus Footage of a changing YEOVIL of the early 1960s with the duel carriage-way being built, the winter of 1964 plus much more!  Also the Kings visit to Sherborne School of 1950, plus Cheap Street in wartime.  The evening of pure nostalgia, will finish at 10pm.

The PTFA will serve refreeshments at half-time.

This two day International Radio Controlled helicopter competition, which showcases the best radio controlled flying displays from around the world, will come to the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Throughout the Museum there will be traders and experts in the field of radio controlled aircraft, to give help and advice to modellers of all levels of experience.

The Friend of the Yeatman - Visit to the Falklands Memorial Chapel & Farleigh House Garden

Ticket: £35, which includes a donation to the Chapel and refreshments at Farleigh House. Please bring your own picnic lunch.

We have arranged for a coach to take us at 9.00 am from Culverhayes Car Park to the Falklands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne, where we will be shown round by the Chaplain, Reverend Neil Jeffers. It will be possible to picnic in the Memorial Garden, or the Mess Hall if wet. We return via Farleigh House where we shall be introduced to the gardens by Lady Annabell, Countess of Portsmouth or by the Head Gardener if the Countess is away. We arrive back in Sherborne at 6 pm. 

This is sure to be a very popular trip and numbers are limited. Tickets go on sale on Monday, 22nd April from Winstone’s Bookshop, Cheap Street. Tickets may be exchanged, but are not returnable.

Hemingway's 'The Killers'

'The Killers' is an Ernest Hemingway short story about two hit men who come to a small town to kill a former boxer. It is one of Hemingway's most anthologised stories and has been the basis for two major films. Adapted and dramatised, 'The Killers' will be performed part-rehearsed in two acts by Amateur Players of Sherborne.

Powerman UK

POWERMAN is a multisport event coming to Sherborne this summer.

It consists of a long and short course running along side of each other, the long course is a 10 km run, followed by a 120km bike finishing with a 20km run and the short course consists of a 10km run followed by a 60km bike then with a 10km run finishing in Cheap Street.

Street market dating back to medieval times, held annually in Sherborne on the first Monday after 10th October – old Michaelmas Day. Although no longer an agricultural fair, it is still a major event in Sherborne with four of the town’s main streets becoming full of street traders and food stalls for the day, and a funfair is usually held on the edge of town on the Monday and the days preceding it.

One of the most spectacular fireworks displays to be found!

Sherborne Castle hosts entertainments, live music, refreshments and food from 5pm, bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks will start at 7.30pm.

Co-ordinated by Sherborne Area Youth & Community Centre and the Rotary Clubs of Sherborne and a proportion of the proveeds will go towards supporting charitable work in the town.
